Odd page calls

In: Web Hosting

My site received five odd page calls that mystify me, and I would appreciate help in understanding what this is about.

It probably isn’t a problem, but I’m asking for general learning about site management and in case there’s something wrong that needs action.

The calling IP was AltusHost.com, which several threads here at WHT have cited as unreliable.

The calls came in at almost the same time that AltusHost was reported in a recent WHT thread ("AltusHost.com Servers Hacked?!") to be down. The timing seems odd. Snooping while crashed?

My site isn’t public and is used only by a few friends for limited purposes. The robots.txt and all the headers say "do not follow". The site is in early development and I don’t want it indexed, cited, or visited for now.

The page calls seem too specific to be a routine crawler. All the bots I’ve seen call for "/" and "/robots.txt" and then go away. These were for specific odd file and directory names that I’ve never listed.

I’ve blocked the IP, but the lookup shows a bunch of IPs for AltusHost.com. Blocking them all didn’t seem useful, and that site may use other IPs too.

Any thoughts will be most welcome. What were those calls about? Does this need action?

Thank you.
